Cheek by Jowl Moves in to Barbican???
Date: 5 August 2004
Londoners could be seeing a lot more of Cheek by Jowl soon. According to
The Stage the renowned UK theatre company, which has never had a permanent home since being founded in 1981 by director
Declan Donnellan and designer
Nick Ormerod, is in negotiations to establish a residency at the Barbican Centre. The newspaper reports that the company’s production of
Othello will transfer to London later this year, while there are at least three other potential collaborations in the pipeline. A Barbican spokeswoman told Whatsonstage.com today that discussions are at a very early stage and no arrangement has been finalised. Once a UK touring fixture, in 1998, Cheek by Jowl disbanded in favour of freelance projects.
Othello - which opened in Oxford in March 2004 and continued until the end of May to six further venues in this country – marked the company’s first UK tour in six years. The production is now on an international tour that culminates with a week at New York’s Brooklyn Academy of Music in October.
