Python’s Spamalot Sets Sights on London???Date: 20 July 2004 No, it’s not the name of a new email filter. Spamalot is the stage version of 1975 classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail and it could be heading to London in 2005. “Lovingly ripped off” from the original screenplay which spoofs the legends of King Arthur, the musical has music and lyrics by John Du Prez and former Python Eric Idle. The US premiere – which opens in Chicago in December ahead of a Broadway transfer in March 2005 – is directed by Mike Nichols and stars Tim Curry (Rocky Horror) as King Arthur, David Hyde Pierce (Niles from Frasier) as Sir Robin and Hank Azaria (The Simpsons, Sexual Perversity in Chicago in the West End) as Sir Lancelot. The National Theatre has been mentioned as a possible first stop venue for an anticipated London transfer. Related Content |
