Full Steam Ahead for Festen???Date: 19 July 2004 Though Bill Kenwright’s production of Imogen Stubbs’ We Happy Few is closing earlier than planned (See Today's News), it may spell good news for another of the impresario’s projects. We hear that Festen is nearing readiness (See The Goss, 28 Apr 2004). David Eldridge's stage version of the 1998 Danish Dogme, about a family whose dark secret emerges during a weekend celebration, had a critically acclaimed run earlier this year at north London’s Almeida Theatre. Directed by Rufus Norris, the original cast – expected to reform – includes Johnny Lee Miller, Jane Asher and Tom Hardy. Apparently, Kenwright is determined for the production to move into Shaftesbury Avenue so the imminent availability of the Gielgud could give him another option. Of course, with fellow Almeida transfer The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?, starring Jonathan Pryce, and the musical Beautiful and Damned both finishing runs at neighbouring theatres the Apollo and the Lyric in August, Kenwright could be somewhat spoilt for choice.
