Charlotte Church for Chitty Chitty???Date: 16 June 2004 When screen-to-stage musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang had its world premiere in the West End in 2002, Truly Scrumptious was given to newcomer Emma Williams (See News, 15 Nov 2001). But for the planned Broadway premiere next year, producers seem less keen to take the box-office risk on an unknown name. According to the Mail on Sunday, 18-year-old classical music prodigy Charlotte Church - now as well known for her tabloid appearances and £16 million fortune as her singing skills – has been offered the part. Michael Ball, the West End’s original Caractacus Potts, the eccentric inventor of the show’s famous flying car, is also tipped to reprise his role in New York. Related Content |
