Peter Hall Plans Rivals for Haymarket???Date: 8 June 2004While the legendary Peter Hall, who celebrated 50 years as a professional director last year, is increasingly turning his attention to seasons in Bath and Kingston-upon-Thames (where a new theatre modelled on the Elizabethan Rose is being built for him), he won’t be absent from the West End for too long. He’s planning a star-studded revival of RB Sheridan’s 1777 comedy of manners, The Rivals. That’s earmarked for spring 2005 at the Theatre Royal Haymarket where, in recent years, Hall has directed high-profile revivals of The Royal Family (with Judi Dench) and Lady Windermere’s Fan (with Vanessa Redgrave and her daughter Joely Richardson). No further names have yet been connected with The Rivals, but no doubt there will be plenty of leading actresses keen to take on the famous role of Mrs Malaprop. Related Content |
