Rhys Plays RSC Oedipus & Richard II???Date: 1 June 2004 The Royal Shakespeare Company hasn’t officially announced its 2005 season yet, but we’ve had a few tasty morsels of late. Following confirmation that Vanessa Redgrave will head to Stratford to take the title role in Euripides’ Hecuba (See News, 29 Mar 2004), actor Paul Rhys reveals in this week’s 20 Questions interview that another Greek tragedy, Sophocles’ Oedipus, is also on the RSC’s cards for 2005. He’s tipped to play the title role in that ancient classic as well as in Shakespeare’s Richard II. Though Rhys comes to the RSC after an absence of nearly 18 years, his more recent Shakespearean credits include Ian Holm’s King Lear at the National and Hamlet, directed at the Young Vic by Laurence Boswell, now an associate director at the RSC. Rhys is currently starring in Complicite’s Measure for Measure at the NT Olivier.
