Calendar Girls Strip Off for Musical???

Date: 6 May 2004

The boys got their undressing both on screen and stage with The Full Monty, and now it’s the girls’ turn. According to the Evening Standard, the makers of last year’s Brit flick hit Calendar Girls, inspired by the true-life story of a Yorkshire Women’s Institute Chapter who posed for a nude calendar to raise funds for charity, are planning to make it into a musical, emulating the route taken by the film about a group of unemployed Northern steel workers who stripped off to pay the bills. If it happens, the Calendar Girls may not have to look too far when pulling together a creative team. Tim Firth, who wrote the film’s screenplay, also wrote the book for last year’s Best New Musical Olivier Award winner, Our House.
