Lorna Luft Packs a Judy Punch in West End???Date: 21 April 2004 Plans to bring Lorna Luft’s one-woman show, Songs My Mother Taught Me, are apparently progressing quickly (See The Goss, 9 Mar 2004). The daughter of the late screen and singing legend Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli's half-sister performed excerpts from the show for a select industry audience at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane yesterday. The show will no doubt prove a pull for Garland fans. Luft has a voice that packs a wallop and, besides often sounding distinctly like Garland, she evens sings duets with her mother via timed interweavings of old television footage. The autobiographical piece was first seen in Los Angeles in 2003 and has proved a hit on the road in the US. It’s tipped to receive its West End premiere within the next few months. Related Content |
