Kevin Spacey has attracted less welcome publicity today – and spent much of his time on
Today explaining away the
Daily Mirror’s front page splash about him being mugged and beaten while out walking his dog at 4.30am on Saturday in a south London park. According to Spacey, “I fell for a con” in which a passer-by asked to borrow his phone, then, when giving chase once the thief fled, the actor tripped over his dog and hit his head on the pavement. Although he felt “like the biggest fool that ever lived”, he says he’s now fine and “it probably is good that I got bonked on the head because obviously I wasn’t thinking”. The newspaper hinted that Spacey, rumoured to be homosexual, may have been in the park for non-canine reasons. “Walking your dog in the park is a perfectly normal thing to do,” said Spacey on
Today and as for those who may question the hour, “my doggie had to go.”
