RSC & Young Vic Move into Whitehall???Date: 5 April 2004Speaking of intimate London venues, we’ll have more details very shortly about the transformation of the West End’s 646-seat Whitehall Theatre into two smaller performance spaces under the name Trafalgar Studios (See The Goss, 18 Mar 2004). We already know the Royal Shakespeare Company will move into the Studios next month with its current Stratford production of Othello (See News, 2 Apr 2004), but the invitation for an upcoming press conference about the future of the theatre, suggest more’s in store. At this Wednesday’s event, Howard Panter, head of Whitehall owner the Ambassador Theatre Group, will be joined by the RSC’s Gregory Doran and Antony Sher as well as David Lan, artistic director of the Young Vic. The South Bank theatre closes this July to undergo a two-year, £12.5 million rebuild, but Lan has previously said that the plan is to continue co-producing intermittent projects elsewhere during the closure.
