Ralph Fiennes Has a Second Go at Hamlet??? Date: 5 April 2004
Ralph Fiennes played the title role in Hamlet in a 1995 Almeida production which was directed by Jonathan Kent and staged at London’s Hackney Empire, which transferred to New York, winning Fiennes a Tony and a Drama Desk award for Best Actor. But Fiennes isn’t through with the Danish prince yet, according to the Daily Mail. He’s considering revisiting the Shakespeare classic in 2005, with former RSC artistic director Adrian Noble, who directed him last year in Ibsen’s Brand. Noble told the Daily Mail, “We found when we were working on Brand that there were aspects of Hamlet that neither of us had explored.” Although only a possibility at this stage, the pair would like to mount the new production in a more intimate 300- to 500-seat London space.
