Spacey's Old Vic on Target for Autumn???Date: 15 March 2004Aside from The Philadelphia Story possibility, just what is the story with Kevin Spacey and the Old Vic? It was over a year ago that he was announced, with much fanfare, as inaugural artistic director of the theatre’s new production company, but since then, bar some Olivier crooning for his friend Dame Judi Dench (See News, 23 Feb 2004), Spacey has remained resolutely silent on the London theatre front. Silence, however, shouldn’t be taken as inactivity. We hear that the first season is well on target for a September 2004 opening, but the Old Vic team are purposely keeping their cards close to their chest and not announcing details until next month. With Spacey himself committed to appearing in at least two productions, as well as directing and luring some of his Hollywood mates to participate, tickets are likely to sell out in record time. Watch this space for further details in April. At last year’s press conference, Spacey promised an "innovative" programme that will include new plays as well as revivals and "Shakespeare on a regular basis" (See News, 5 Feb 2003). Something to look forward to. Related Content |
