Search Continues for Billy Elliot???Date: 10 February 2004 Director Stephen Daldry is widening the net to find his new Billy Elliot. The first round of open auditions to find the right 11 to 14-year old, to play the title role in the stage musical based on the hit film, took place last November, and after more calls in London, auditions continue on 21 and 29 February in Glasgow and Nottingham, respectively. The show was previously rumoured to be opening in Newcastle this August ahead of a West End transfer (See The Goss, 3 Nov 2003), but a spokeswoman told Whatsonstage.com that this is not the case and that a timeframe for the premiere is still not settled. Meanwhile, Mamma Mia!’s producers are also holding extensive open auditions to fill 30 parts for their upcoming international tour. Up to 1,000 hopefuls are expected to turn out for each of the city auditions in Dublin (23 February), Edinburgh (25-26 February) and London (29 March).
