Bat Boy Wings from Leeds to London???

Date: 10 February 2004

Now that the award-winning Off-Broadway pop musical Bat Boy at last has its UK premiere secured for this June in Leeds (See News, 9 Feb 2004), we’re now once again hearing strong rumours that it’ll be winging its way down to London shortly after that limited four-week season. The show was previously tipped for The Venue, off Leicester Square (See The Goss, 30 May 2003), and that’s still looking a likely home for it. That said, timings may be somewhat affected by the recently opened Round the Horne...Revisited, which has turned into a surprise hit there. Set in small town West Virginia, Bat Boy is a tabloid tale brought to life, the story of a half-boy, half-bat who takes up with a veterinarian's family while struggling with his self-image and thirst for blood. The musical has a story and book by Keythe Farley and Brian Fleming, music and lyrics by Lawrence O'Keefe. Songs include "Apology to a Cow", "Ugly Boy" and "More Blood".
