Jumpers Starts NT Broadway Transfer Scheme???Date: 27 January 2004 David Leveaux’s critically acclaimed National Theatre revival of Tom Stoppard’s philosophical farce Jumpers has confirmed its transfer to Broadway, where it opens in April 2004. Accompanying the production, Simon Russell Beale and Essie Davies will both be making their Broadway debuts. The show also marks a couple of other firsts. It’s the first Broadway transfer under the NT regime of Nicholas Hytner, who took over as artistic director last April, and the first as part of a new partnership Hytner negotiated with Broadway producers Bob Boyett and Bill Haber. In exchange for $450,000 paid in annually to the National coffers (initially for three years), Boyett and Haber’s company Ostar Productions gets first-look US transfer rights for all NT productions (See News, 24 Sep 2003). After the Stoppard, Moira Buffini’s Dinner and Michael Frayn’s Democracy are also expected to cross the Atlantic. In the meantime, all three have West End duties to fulfil: Dinner is running at Wyndham’s until April when it’s followed by Democracy, while Jumpers must finish its limited season at the Piccadilly Theatre on 7 February 2004.
