West End After Donmar for Miss Julie???Date: 20 January 2004 The Donmar Warehouse’s stage premiere production of After Miss Julie, Patrick Marber's version of August Strindberg's 1888 clash of the classes classic, is being tipped for a further life in the West End and possibly even on Broadway. The three-hander, directed by Donmar artistic director Michael Grandage and opened on 25 November 2003 (previews from 20 November), has just earned Kelly Reilly an Olivier Best Actress nomination for her performance in the title role (See News, 15 Jan 2004). Richard Coyle and Helen Baxendale also star, playing servants in an English country house on the night of the British Labour Party's 1945 election victory. If plans come to fruition, After Miss Julie will mark the Donmar’s first West End transfer since Grandage took over the theatre from Sam Mendes in December 2002. Theatregoers who haven’t yet managed to get tickets should hope that it does happen. The remainder of After Miss Julie’s Donmar run, which finishes on 7 February 2004, has long sold out.
