Oxford Waiter Serves London Transfer???Date: 31 December 2003Pitch perfect Pinter performer Douglas Hodge’s directorial debut, the Oxford Playhouse revival of Pinter's 1960 comedy The Dumb Waiter, is being tipped for a West End transfer (See News, 26 Nov 2003). The new production, starring Jason Watkins (A Servant to Two Masters) and Olivier Award winner Toby Jones (The Play What I Wrote), opens in Oxford in February and then heads to Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre prior to a possible London season. It could be the first of many more Playhouse productions in the West End and elsewhere. The theatre recently appointed as artistic associates the very well connected husband and wife team of David Aukin (formerly artistic director at Hampstead Theatre and presenter of numerous shows, most recently with Act Productions) and Nancy Meckler (joint artistic director of Shared Experience). Amongst the expansionist Playhouse projects already mooted is a 2004 national tour for South African dramatist Yael Farber’s Amajuba, which received its UK premiere in Oxford in July 2003.
