Burke's Straits Starts Trilogy???Date: 27 November 2003Gregory Burke's play The Straits finishes its run at London's Hampstead Theatre this weekend, concluding a successful tour for the Paines Plough production (See News, 3 Nov 2003). But that won't be the last we'll hear from the young Scottish playwright on the subject of British imperialism and national identity. Burke has told Whatsonstage.com that The Straits is the first of a trilogy exploring what it means to be British today. Similar to The Straits, which is set in Gibraltar on the eve of the Falklands War, the other plays will also view Britain from abroad. Burke plans to locate the second play in the trilogy in Stockholm during the 1992 European championships, and the third is likely to be set in a holding station for asylum seekers. Related Content |
