Rigg Suddenly Set for West End???Date: 13 November 2003Another production that had transfer written all over it from the get-go is also now expected in the West End in April ahead of a transatlantic trip. Michael Grandage's upcoming Sheffield revival of Tennessee Williams' Suddenly Last Summer is likely to come straight into town following its run at Sheffield's Lyceum Theatre from 12 to 28 February 2004 and a regional tour to 17 April 2004 (See The Goss, 15 Oct 2003). With theatre stalwarts Diana Rigg and Victoria Hamilton playing the parts immortalised by Elizabeth Taylor and Katherine Hepburn in the 1959 film version, the production is shaping up to be something of a sure-fire hit. The part of the dishy young doctor, played by Montgomery Clift on screen, has yet to be cast. UPDATED: Since posting this story, a Sheffield spokesperson has been in touch to clarify that, while a West End transfer is hoped for, the theatre does not have the US rights for the play, so it would not move to Broadway under its auspices.
