Simon Callow Relives Gray's Holy Terror???

Never mind the Hollywood celebs queuing up to get involved, the first production out of the stable of director Laurence Boswell's new production company (See The Goss, 4 Sep 2003) will draw from talent much closer to home. Simon Callow will play a ruthless publisher undergoing a nervous breakdown in Simon Gray's Holy Terror. Boswell tells Whatsonstage.com it's as good as a new play. To be more precise, it's a play that Gray keeps returning to anew. Its original premiere, under the title Melon, was in 1987 at the West End's Theatre Royal Haymarket, where Gray's long-time collaborator Alan Bates starred. The author later revised it for a Broadway run in 1989, and he's now been tinkering with it again. The latest version with Callow will begin rehearsals in the new year. In February 2004, Holy Terror will embark on an eight-week regional tour, before transferring to the West End in April. That LBP debut production will be followed by other projects including, as already tipped, Romeo and Juliet with Jake Gyllenhaal, A Doll's House with Calista Flockhart and an as yet unnamed play with comedian Lenny Henry (See The Goss, 31 Oct & 24 Oct 2003).
