Madness Ends but Butcher Wields Weapons???Date: 29 October 2003According to this week's edition of The Stage, we've seen the last of Justin Butcher's political satire The Madness of George Dubya. After success on the fringe, the cult hit - which updated Stanley Kubrick's seminal film, Dr Strangelove, to pour scorn on the war in Iraq - had an extended season this past summer at the West End's Arts Theatre and was tipped for numerous foreign productions (See The Goss, 13 May 2003). However, further performances have been nixed after the estate of Kubrick objected. Undaunted, writer and director Butcher is now busy penning a sequel, due to open by the end of the year at north London's Teatro Technis, where George Dubya was first seen. It's called A Weapons Inspector Calls. Might JB Priestley's executors have something to say about that? Related Content |
