Walker, Harris & Fox Make Liaisons???Date: 17 October 2003 Some casting kernels from the upcoming West End revival of Les Liaisons Dangereuses. According to today's Daily Mail, screen actors Polly Walker (Eight and a Half Women, Patriot Games, Emma) and Jared Harris (Igby Goes Down, Perfume, Natural Born Killers) will play the scheming Marquise de Merteuil and Valmont in Christopher Hampton's famous stage adaptation of de Laclos' 1782 novel about the affairs of the French aristocracy. The parts have previously been immortalised by Alan Rickman and Lindsay Duncan in the RSC's original 1985 production and by John Malkovich and Glenn Close in the 1988 Hollywood film. In the new stage outing, directed by Tim Fywell (I Capture the Castle, Cambridge Spies), English rose Emilia Fox (Richard II, Coriolanus, Good on stage) is signed up to play Valmont's virtuous conquest Madame de Tourvel (played by Michelle Pfeiffer on screen). The production is expected to open in London this December.
