Pythons Fly with Holy Grail Musical???Date: 2 October 2003 Could it be divine inspiration? Comedian Eric Idle has written a stage musical version of his 1975 film hit Monty Python and the Holy Grail which he plans to premiere on Broadway in 2005. Tentatively titled Spamalot, the show has a book by Idle, with music and lyrics by Idle and John Du Prez, while Mike Nichols has reportedly signed up to direct and Whatsonstage.com Award winner Jerry Mitchell to choreograph. Meanwhile, Idle has embarked on a comedy tour of the US, during which he plans to get audience feedback on the project. He originally created Holy Grail - as well as Life of Brian, The Meaning of Life and the Flying Circus series - with fellow Pythons John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and the late Graham Chapman. Earlier this year, the Pythons provided inspiration for other theatre makers, with two shows at this year's Edinburgh Fringe - a French-language revue of Flying Circus sketches and A Very Naughty Boy, based on the life of Chapman - performed in their name.
