Friedman Joins Diva Elite in New York???

Maria Friedman makes her New York cabaret debut at the prestigious Caf� Carlyle tonight (23 September 2003), for a three-week season to 11 October of a one-woman show, "From London to New York". Tonight's opening is being hosted by none other than Stephen Sondheim and Barbara Cook, officially anointing Friedman as one of the 'cabaret chosen'. But will New York take to our divas as readily as we have taken to theirs? On this side of the pond, American performers like Betty Buckley, Patti LuPone, Audra McDonald, Ann Hampton Callaway and Kristen Chenoweth have all featured successfully in the Divas at the Donmar season over the past few years.
