Frayn's Democracy Wins West End Vote???Date: 10 September 2003The only real shock with Michael Frayn's German political history lesson Democracy would be if it doesn't transfer after its world premiere run at the National. In the NT Cottesloe, the piece was well received last night by an audience of dignitaries and well reviewed this morning by the broadsheet critics. Even Peter J Davison's slick two-tier set looks more suited to a West End playhouse than the South Bank complex's smallest auditorium. Producer Michael Codron - the third of the trio of Michaels (playwright Frayn and director Blakemore being the first two) who've banded together on numerous West End hits, not least 1998's multi award-winning Copenhagen - is probably already thumbing through his diary.
