Albee Tethers Goat UK Premiere to Almeida???
Date: 5 September 2003
The Goat or Who is Sylvia?, written by leading American dramatist Edward Albee, looks set to receive its UK premiere in early 2004. According to the Daily Mail, London's Almeida Theatre has secured it to open the new year in January. Like in Albee's most famous play, 1962's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, marital discord lies at the heart of The Goat, in which a splash of bestiality comes between an architect and his wife. The 2002 Tony Award winner for Best Play had its Broadway premiere in March 2002, when it starred Mercedes Ruehl and Bill Pullman. The Almeida has previously revived Virginia Woolf, in a production that starred Diana Rigg and David Suchet and transferred to the West End, and, in 1997, mounted the world premiere of Albee's The Play About the Baby.
