Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de London???Date: 13 August 2003Terrence McNally's Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune looks likely to return to the West End later this year. The 1987 play was originally a hit Off-Broadway with Kathy Bates and Kenneth Walsh and was previously seen in London with Julie Walters and Brian Cox. In 1991, it was filmed, as simply Frankie and Johnny, with the decidedly photogenic Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino in the title roles of a weary waitress and an ex-con cook who fall reluctantly in love between short orders at the New York diner where they both work. The stage play at last received its Broadway debut in 2002 in an extended run that initially starred Edie Falco of Sopranos fame (previously seen in London in Side Man) and Stanley Tucci (Road to Perdition, Big Night) and was this year nominated for two Tonys, included Best Revival of a Play. The new West End staging is also anticipated to attract the attention of some big-name Hollywood hitters, but who? Related Content |
