Lindsay & Evans Tipped for London Producers???Date: 25 July 2003According to today's Daily Mail, Robert Lindsay and Lee Evans are in negotiations to star as Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom in the long anticipated London transfer of Broadway musical hit The Producers. Talked about for more than two years now, at one point it looked like the production would be scrapped because of a lack of venue availability (See The Goss, 17 Jan 2003). Our own mole has told Whatsonstage.com that the musical comedy based on Mel Brooks' 1968 film will indeed land at last in autumn 2004 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, where one NT musical (My Fair Lady) is about to give way to another (Anything Goes, which starts performances in late September 2003). As for The Producers casting, while the prospect of Lindsay and Evans is sure to delight their own fans, others may find the news disappointing compared to the notion of Broadway originals Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick recreating the roles of Bialystock and Bloom, respectively. Last summer, Brooks himself tipped the pair for a London retread and recent sightings of the actors around London had re-animated speculation. Related Content |
