Everything for a Tenner??? RSC Joins the RushDate: 21 July 2003Well, it seems like everybody's doing. The West End has never been a stranger to price slashing, as our own long-running and hugely popular Prizes & Offers section will verify. But this seems to be the year for more formalised schemes and ten seems to be the magic number. It started with Nicholas Hytner's announcement of the current six-month £10 season in the NT Olivier, backed by Travelex (See News, 30 Apr 2003). More recently, commercial producers ATG jumped on the bandwagon with £10 tickets to three of their West End plays this summer (See News, 7 Jul 2003). Now, the Royal Shakespeare Company is also following suit, via the return of its occasional Festival Proms Week (last mounted three years ago). From 25 to 30 August 2003 in Stratford, the RSC will reduce 200 of the best seats in the house to, yes, just £10 each. The reduced price applies to select Royal Shakespeare Theatre showings of The Taming of the Shrew, Measure for Measure and Richard III, which opens this week with Henry Goodman in the title role. Limited to two per person, the £10 RSC tickets can only be booked in person from the box office from 9.00am on the day of the performance. Related Content |
