Rat Pack Trio Sees Double in West End???

Date: 14 July 2003

The Rat Pack may soon be given a run for its money in the West End. Capitalising on the feelgood nostalgia for those superslick kings of cool, the alternatively titled Rat Pack Confidential is expected to arrive in town this autumn. While the former is an unashamed tribute concert -with look-alikes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr crooning classics such as "I've Got You Under My Skin", "Witchcraft", "That's Amore", "That Old Black Magic", "My Way" and "The Lady is a Tramp" to the accompaniment of a live 15-piece Big Band - the latter is based on Shawn Levy's 1999 group biography of the same name. Adapted by Paul Sirett and directed by Nottingham Playhouse artistic director Giles Croft, Rat Pack Confidential premiered in Nottingham in September 2002 (See News, 8 Aug 2002). In addition to the aforementioned trio, the play features lower profile Rats Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop and explores the group's connections with both the Kennedys and the Mafia. Meanwhile, after its initial extended run at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, West End first-comers The Rat Pack transferred last month to the Strand , where it's currently booking through October 2003 (See News, 29 Apr 2003).
