Catch Me If You Can a Musical Hit???

Screen-to-stage adaptations seem to be coming faster and thicker than ever. Last year's Hollywood hit Catch Me If You Can is already being touted for the musical makeover treatment. Based on the real-life story of Frank Abagnale Jr - the teenaged American con artist who amassed a $2.5 million fortune from forged cheques in the 1960s - the film starred Leonardo di Caprio as the man of many identities, with Tom Hanks' middle-aged FBI agent on his tail. Now, Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, the songwriting team who transformed John Waters' 1988 cult flick Hairspray into a Tony Award-winning musical hit, are reportedly in collaborations with director Steven Spielberg to work the same magic on Catch Me If You Can. Creative questions aside, casting could prove tricky. The actor who plays Di Caprio's role will, shall we say, face a Titanic challenge in winning over the Hollywood hunk's many admirers.
