Mary Poppins Pops into Prince Edward???Date: 23 June 2003 Industry newspaper The Stage has tipped the West End's Prince Edward theatre as the venue for the autumn 2004 opening of Mary Poppins. As previously reported (See The Goss, 25 Mar 2003), the stage adaptation of the classic movie musical, which is being co-produced by Cameron Mackintosh and Disney, will be directed by former NT artistic director Richard Eyre and will have a new book by Julian Fellowes (who won an Oscar for his Gosford Park screenplay) with George Stiles and Anthony Drewe (Honk!, Peter Pan) adding to the Sherman Brothers' score. Stiles and Drewe revealed some of their new songs for Mary Poppins this past weekend at a special Open Air concert celebrating their first 20 song-writing years together (See The Goss, 17 Jun 2003). Currently residing at the Prince Edward is the Abba musical blockbuster Mamma Mia!, which is expected to transfer to the refurbished Prince of Wales theatre, owned by Mackintosh, in mid-2004 (See News, 16 Jun 2003).
