Footloose & Fancy Free for UK in 2004???Date: 19 June 2003According to this week's edition of The Stage, the Broadway musical Footloose is making tracks for the UK. Based on the 1984 Hollywood film starring Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer, Footloose centres on a teenaged boy the city who moves with his family to a small town in middle America were rock music and dancing are outlawed for religious reasons. Several songs from the movie - including "Let's Hear It for the Boy", "Almost Paradise", "Holding Out for a Hero" and the title song - became chart-topping pop hits. The stage adaptation - with a book by Walter Bobbie and Dean Pitchford, who wrote the original screenplay - had its Broadway premiere in October 1998, running for nearly two years. The musical has been touring continental Europe for the past six months, and plans are now underway to bring it to the UK in 2004, embarking on a year-long regional tour before transferring to the West End. Leicester Haymarket's Paul Kerryson is signed up to direct the new production, which will have choreography by Karen Bruce and new compositions by veteran heavy metal rocker Meat Loaf.
