Mamet Lures Izzard for Faust Premiere???Date: 12 May 2003 Comedian Eddie Izzard - who was today nominated for a Tony Award for his performance opposite Victoria Hamilton in the Broadway transfer of their hit London revival of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg (See Today's News) - has many more admirers Stateside than just those on the Tony judging panel. Amongst them is none other than playwright and film writer-director David Mamet, whose 1975 hit Sexual Perversity in Chicago receives a high-profile West End revival this week. Mamet's next stage project will be a modern, free-verse version of "sell your soul to the devil" classic Faust. It's due to premiere in San Francisco in late 2004 and Mamet would love to cast Izzard in the title role. If it doesn't work out for that production, the American hopes to lure the Briton into some other collaboration in future. He told the Times: "As they say in my country, he (Izzard) can put his shoes under my bad any time he wants. He's a great artist. I revere him."
