Olivia & John Grease Up Again for Sequel???Date: 7 May 2003Twenty-five years on, Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta are reportedly in talks to reunite for another go at Grease. The musical, in which the two starred as 1950s high school sweethearts Danny and Sandy, turned them into mega movie stars in 1978. In the sequel, they'll play the parents of 1970s disco-mad teens. Could there also be a stage spin-off in the works? Because of the huge success of the film, it's sometimes forgotten that Grease was a stage musical first, premiered on Broadway in 1972 and frequently revived. In this country, the show has had repeated West End seasons - currently at the Victoria Palace, starring Ben Richards and Joanne Farrell - interspersed with almost non-stop touring. The Newton-John and Travolta retread will actually be Grease 3. The first sequel, Grease 2 was released in 1982 and, despite starring a young Michelle Pfeiffer, never proved to be the one that audiences wanted. You don't see many stage productions of that one.Got some goss? Contact gossip@whatsonstage.com Related Content |
