Vincent Revisits London after New York???Date: 25 April 2003New York audiences don't seem to have taken to Nicholas Wright's Vincent in Brixton in quite the same way as Londoners, including this year's Olivier judges, who awarded it the 2003 prizes for both Best New Play and Best Actress for Clare Higgins. Following its runs last year at the National and in the West End, the play about painter Vincent Van Gogh opened on Broadway on 6 March 2003 (previews from 13 February) and quickly extended its booking to 8 June. However, earlier this month, the close date was revised and the production will now finish in New York on 4 May 2003, the end of its original booking period. The good news is that New York's abbreviated loss may be London's gain. Producers are planning to bring the show back to the West End for another limited season after Broadway. Vincent in Brixton is directed by Richard Eyre and also stars Dutch actor Jochum ten Haaf as Van Gogh. Related Content |
