Will Suggs Get the Boy George Bug???
Date: 18 March 2003

Madness lead singer Suggs made his theatrical debut last night in Our House, the Olivier Award-winning musical based on the band's greatest hits. Suggs is due to appear in the show for one week only - with proceeds going towards the charity, Child Victims of Crime - filling in for Ian Reddington in the role of Joe's Dad. But with last night's reception for his performance wildly enthusiastic, perhaps he'll reconsider, as did Boy George who, though at first vowing he'd never perform in his own musical Taboo, has since become one of its star attractions and will now transfer with the show to Broadway. Suggs came to the week's engagement through some indirect persuasion by Reddington. He explains: "I've been very involved since the beginning, spending a lot of time at the show. I've always loved what Ian has done with the role, and he's always joked with me that it could have been written for me. That started me thinking each time I sat through the show, what would it be like in the part? So I finally though I would give it a go. Roll on next year's Oliviers!" So, not exactly a shrinking violet then?
