Our Youth's Third Coming on the Cards???

Although Kenneth Lonergan's This Is Our Youth finishes its second West End season this weekend, we've a strong inkling this won't be the last we'll see of this Whatsonstage.com Award-winning comedy. Word is, there are enough Hollywood young guns desperate to strut their stuff in this one to keep it going Art-style for some time to come. Those who've done so to date include: Hayden Christensen, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anna Paquin, Matt Damon, Casey (brother of Ben) Affleck, Summer (sister of River and Joaquin) Phoenix, Kieran (brother of Macaulay) Culkin, Colin (son of Tom) Hanks and Alison Lohman, as well as the current trio of Freddie Prinze Jr, Chris Klein and Heather Burns. And, when the production took a seven-month break last year, the rumour that no lesser screen stars than Gangs of New York's Leonard DiCaprio and Spiderman Tobey Maguire were keen to bring it back generated international headlines (See The Goss, 27 Jun 2003). So, why look a gift horse - or a money-spinner - in the mouth? Prior to any Youth comeback, producers at Out of the Blue have a few other pressing projects to focus on, not least Ariel Dorfman's first play since 1991's Death and the Maiden. Titled Purgatorio, the new piece is expected to open in the West End in autumn 2003, starring Catherine McCormack and Amores Perros' Gael Garcia Bernal (See The Goss, 20 Jan 2003).
