Sisters' Scott Thomas Battles Stage Fright???Date: 4 March 2003Though British-born Kristin Scott Thomas has appeared in numerous stage productions in France, where she's lived for the past 20-odd years, when she opens shortly in Michael Blakemore's revival of Three Sisters at the West End's Playhouse, it will be the first time she's been on the British boards since she became an ex-pat. And, as she revealed in an interview with the Evening Standard, she's got a serious bout of stage fright. "When you act in a foreign language, there is a safety net, so I have no qualms about acting in French." It's a different matter here, she says. In London, "there will be no question of people making an allowance on the basis that I'm a foreigner. The safety net will be gone....There's always the risk of being made to look ridiculous!" Scott Thomas has become best known internationally for her work in films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, The English Patient, Angels and Insects, Bitter Moon, The Horse Whisperer and Gosford Park. Three Sisters opens for a limited season at the Playhouse on 3 April, following previews from 20 March (See News, 12 Feb 2003). Related Content |
