Summer Ripe for Holiday & Rocky Transfers???

Date: 6 March 2003

Could Summer Holiday have a summer holiday in the West End? Producers of a new mounting of "the ultimate roadtrip musical", based on the 1963 film which shot Cliff Richard to fame, are planning their itinerary around that scenario (See News, 6 Mar 2003). A new tour of the show - featuring Hear'Say pop star Suzanne Shaw, Hollyoaks' Stefan Booth and Christopher Biggins - is being touted as "directly prior to the West End". Given the tour runs from 3 April to 9 August, that means we should be looking out for Don and co to touch down in London by the August bank holiday. Another long-touring musical with screen credentials, Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show, is also hoping for a summer season in the capital. The cult classic first saw the light of day on 16 June 1973 at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs and director Christopher Malcolm is keen to see it back in London in time for its 30th birthday. A massive 30th anniversary tour - launched in September 2002 and starring Jonathan Wilkes as well as a roster of celebrity Narrators - continues until 31 May 2003. As for London, Malcolm has previously told Whatsonstage.com he'd like to see Rocky at the West End's Albery Theatre, where comedy show Mum's the Word is about to open for a limited season (See The Goss, 6 Sep 2002).
