Callow Bares All Again in Through the Leaves???Date: 26 February 2003 Those who missed Simon Callow and Ann Mitchell in German playwright Franz Kroetz's Through the Leaves may have another chance soon to see the critically acclaimed two-hander. Its run last month at London's fringe Southwark Playhouse was a brief three weeks, but plans are now afoot to bring Daniel Kramer's production into the West End, perhaps even followed by a Broadway transfer. The timing will of Through the Leaves' London resurrection will be affected by two things: Callow's directorial commitments on Tommy Cooper tribute Jus' Like That, which arrives at the West End's Garrick Theatre on 3 April 2003 after regional dates; and, of course, the potential outbreak of war. Still, all going to plan, the production will reopen this spring or early summer. Though the two actors were praised for their performances, some tabloid coverage criticised Callow - and, more particularly, his physical - for a bath scene he plays in the buff. The star went on to public defended his right to bare all on stage, saying he "had nothing left to hide" (See The Goss, 20 Jan 2003). So, if you're at all prudish about stage nudity, take note before booking for this transfer.
