My Fair Lady Scores Another Best Actress in Riding???Date: 13 February 2003 Theatregoers on the Whatsonstage.com Discussion Forum have leaked that My Fair Lady's Jo Riding was last night awarded the 2003 Olivier for Best Actress in a Musical. According to audience reports, pop idol Will Young came onstage after last night's performance at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Riding is the second Eliza in as many years to win the coveted prize. Last year's controversially went to original star Martine McCutcheon, despite her frequent absences from the production. Since it opened in March 2001, My Fair Lady was not eligible for this year's Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers' Choice Awards, although Riding herself attracted so many nominations that she received a Special Mention at the awards launch in November 2002 (See News, 29 Nov 2002). Last night's presentation was filmed to be used as part of tomorrow's lunchtime Laurence Olivier awards ceremony at the Lyceum Theatre as well as for the BBC2 TV broadcast on Friday 15 February at 8.00pm. A full list of winners for the 2003 Oliviers will be posted on Whatsonstage.com as soon as they are announced tomorrow afternoon.
