The Producers Goes Round the Houses???Date: 17 January 2003 The long (long!) anticipated London transfer of Broadway musical blockbuster The Producers looks like it may be homeless once again. The word back two months ago was that the production would land finally at the Prince Edward in 2004 when Abba's Mamma Mia! is expected to up stakes to Cameron Mackintosh's refurbished Prince of Wales Theatre (See The Goss, 8 Nov 2002). But according to today's Daily Mail, that's now off and the producers of The Producers are reconsidering the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, which at 2,230 seats, was earlier ruled out for being too large. Original Broadway stars Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick have apparently been persuaded to reprise their roles to open the London run, but the star casting may prove a moot point if they've got nowhere to perform. Other future productions touted for the Prince Edward and Drury Lane are, respectively, Mary Poppins and a revival of 42nd Street.
