Sleep Slips into Limehouse Adaptation???

Wayne Sleep has been at the National of late workshopping a musical adaptation of Peter Ackroyd's
Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem. Set in 1880s London and written in the style of Victorian author Thomas De Quincey, Ackroyd's 1995 novel melds fiction and biography, juxtaposing details of the real life of comedian and panto artiste Dan Leno with a series of fictional Jack the Ripper-style murders in and around the music halls where he worked. Sleep isn't putting all his eggs in one basket, though. Word has it that he may be returning to the West End stage in the new year to play Amos Hart in
Chicago, while next Christmas he plays to recreate Fred Ashton's Ugly Sister in
Cinderella at the Royal Opera House.
