Second Chance for Proof & Donmar Celebrations???

Date: 21 November 2002

Good news for anyone who missed two of this year's hottest Donmar tickets - Gwyneth Paltrow's West End debut in Proof and the farewell gala for outgoing artistic director Sam Mendes. Paltrow's role in David Auburn's play has already earned her a place on the shortlist for this year's Evening Standard Awards (announced on Monday, 25 Nov 2002). Plans are now progressing on the big screen version of Proof (See The Goss, 1 Mar 2002), which will be directed by John Madden (who directed Paltrow at the Donmar and in her Oscar-winning role in Shakespeare in Love) with Rebecca (daughter of Arthur) Miller drafted in to pen the screenplay. Meanwhile, Donmar devotees will also have another chance in the new year to honour the theatre's tenth anniversary and say so long to Mendes - though you'll be better placed on the other side of the pond. The theatre held a gala party here in London at the end of September and will repeat the exercise in New York on 4 February 2003, to tie in with the American opening of Mendes' double bill - Uncle Vanya and Twelfth Night - at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
