Berkoff Backs Jerry with Joint Projects???Date: 29 October 2002Steven Berkoff is doing his utmost to lift the stage credibility of model-turned-actress Jerry Hall. The ever-busy and ever-controversial actor-writer-director plans to star with Hall next year, either in a new play he's penned or in a Shakespeare production. Berkoff has praised Hall in The Stage newspaper, saying: "I think she's working away to becoming a major actor and she is totally underrated - she's a very powerful actor who just needs the right role. Jerry has the elements of beauty, conviction and a tremendous ambition to act onstage." Critics may not agree. They largely panned Hall's most recent production, Benchmark, which has just completed its run at the fringe New End Theatre in Hampstead. Her other stage credits have included The Graduate (in which she starred as Mrs Robinson), The Vagina Monologues and Bus Stop, all in the West End, as well as this year's touring production of Brian McAvera's Picasso's Women.
