Hall the Younger Finds Family Roots at National???
Date: 28 October 2002
The
Sunday Times also reports that NT artistic director-designate
Nicholas Hytner intends to appoint a team of associate directors once he takes over from
Trevor Nunn full-time in April 2003. The practice, which helps to spread the directorial and administrative load, was used by previous leaders including
Richard Eyre but fell out of favour with Nunn, something that he has been criticised for in the past. Amongst those apparently in the associate frame are
Howard Davies (whose dame-led
Breath of Life is currently at the Haymarket),
Katie Mitchell (who recently directed
Ivanov to great acclaim at the NT Cottesloe), Cheek by Jowl’s
Declan Donnellan (now steering the RSC Academy’s inaugural
King Lear and
Edward Hall (son of founding NT director
Peter Hall, former RSC associate and the man about to bring Sean Bean’s
Macbeth to the West End).
