Haig Tinkles the Ivories at New Hampstead???Date: 21 October 2002Actor and writer David Haig, currently starring in the West End return of Yasmina Reza's Life X 3, has tipped his next new play for inclusion in the 2003 inaugural season of Hampstead Theatre's new, state-of-the-art building. The existing theatre closes for good on 9 November 2002, at the end of its extended pre-West End revival of Mike Leigh's Abigail's Party. Although details of the grand reopening season have not yet been announced, it is also expected to include the Scarborough transfer of Tim Firth's latest play, The Safari Party (See The Goss, 2 Oct 2002). Haig's new play, as yet untitled, concerns reclusive 19th-century pianist Charles-Valentin Alkan and will feature two pianos on stage. His previous plays at Hampstead have been The Good Samaritan and My Boy Jack, which he hopes to tour next year. For further details, read this week's 20 Questions interview with Haig.
