Flynn Flies the Fez for Callow's Cooper Caper???

Soldier Soldier star Jerome Flynn will take on the ghost of Tommy Cooper, according to this morning's Daily Mail. He's signed up to portray the late comedian in John Fisher's new play Cooper! Not Like That, Like This, which is due to premiere at Malvern in March 2003 ahead of a short regional tour and expected West End transfer. Cooper died on stage at Her Majesty's Theatre in 1984 of a heart attack. His act combined hammy comedy with a classic sense of timing. This enabled him to rehash old jokes, and to make a mess of magic tricks with exquisite humour whilst wearing his trademark fez hat. Fisher's play - which is to be directed by Simon Callow and choreographed by Lionel Blair - is set on the night of Cooper's death.
