Nasty Nick Eyes Joseph Post-Rocky Horror???
Date: 7 October 2002
Nick Bateman - aka 'Nasty Nick', the cheater evicted from the first series of TV's
Big Brother - dons suspenders and faces the press tonight (7 October 2002) as the Narrator in the 30th anniversary production of
The Rocky Horror Show, opening at Bromley's Churchill Theatre ahead of a massive UK-wide tour (See
The Goss, 7 Sep 2002). Producers of the musical hope to bring it into the West End for limited season in June 2003, along with the rota of celebrity narrators who, in addition to Bateman, are Christine Hamilton, Rhona Cameron and John Stalker. Bateman, for one, is relishing the opportunity to make his West End debut - and his stage ambitions don't stop there. He's already appeared on stage last year's Lincoln panto,
Jack and the Beanstalk, and told Whatsonstage.com that his biggest theatrical dream is to take on
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, his favourite musical. Not that Bateman's getting too big for his toga - he'd like to be cast as one of the nasty brothers rather than in the title role. He's seen the Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice classic many times, and previously appeared in amateur and school productions of it. Perhaps he'll get his chance in the West End, too, though he'll have to strike a balance with his
Rocky Horror commitments. The current
Joseph tour - which, from 16 December 2002, will star Boyzone's Stephen Gately in the lead - is expected in London in early 2003.
